An Estimated RM65.4mil Was Lost To Putra Heights Gas Explosion With 81 Homes Burned Down, Says S’gor MB

A fiery gas pipeline explosion that rocked Putra Heights on 1 Apr has left behind an estimated RM65.4 million in property damage, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

437 homes inspected, many in ruins

After thorough inspections, authorities found that:

  • 81 homes were completely destroyed (over 40% structural damage)
  • Another 81 homes suffered partial damage
  • 57 homes were affected by heat or smoke but remained structurally intact
  • 218 homes were unaffected

In total, 437 homes were assessed.

Firefighters saved over RM285.9 million worth of assets

Thanks to swift action from the Fire and Rescue Department, assets valued at RM285.9 million were saved from the flames.

As of 11am today, 151 homes have been declared safe for residents to return. Some minor repairs may still be required, but owners are allowed to move back in.

Authorities also extended the inspection zone from 290 metres to 325 metres to ensure safety.
