Compensation To Family Of Sinkhole Victim To Be Discussed In Cabinet Next Week

The Cabinet is set to discuss a proposal to compensate the family of G Vijaya Lakshmi, an Indian national who tragically fell into a sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India on August 23.

After nine days of extensive search and rescue (SAR) operations, the efforts were officially called off.

Repair work to take 3-6 months

The repair work for the sinkhole, which caused the 48-year-old woman to fall due to ground subsidence, is expected to take between three to six months, according to TV3.

Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), announced that the proposal would be urgently brought up in the Cabinet next week.

“We propose to discuss and bring this issue to the Cabinet. InshaAllah, we have a meeting next week,” she said on Sunday during a press conference.

Dr. Zaliha previously mentioned that the government is ready to consider compensation for the victim’s family.
