UNOFFICIAL: PN’s Dominic Lau Loses Bid To Secure Bayan Lepas

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate and Gerakan president Dominic Lau has been defeated by PH’s Azrul Mahathir Aziz in the two-cornered fight for the Bayan Lepas seat.

Guang Ming Daily reported that Lau had 13,626 votes, while Azrul had 15,410 votes, giving him the win with a 1,784 majority.

The loss also meant that Lau lost the RM5,000 deposit he placed to be part of the contest.

Lau’s decision to be a candidate in the Malay-dominated seat has courted much controversy and backlash from certain PN quarters, who believed that a Malay candidate should be fielded instead.
