The Making of a Badminton Prodigy

According to Goody25, at just 6 years old, Goh Jin Wei picked up a badminton racquet and never looked back.

By the time she was 7, she had already clinched her first championship title.

Fast forward a few years, and she was the youngest player to ever compete in the National Grand Prix Finals.

Goh’s star continued to rise, and in 2018, she etched her name in the history books by securing Malaysia’s first-ever gold medal in women’s singles at the Youth Olympic Games.

A Battle Beyond the Court

But behind the glitz of her medals and trophies was a battle far more daunting than any opponent she faced on the court.

In 2018, while gearing up for the Youth Olympics, Goh was diagnosed with a rare bowel condition that wreaked havoc on her digestive system.

However, the condition lingered, leading her on a desperate search for answers across various specialists, including ten doctors in Beijing.

In 2019, with no improvement in sight, Goh was faced with a life-changing decision: undergo a partial colectomy and live with a lifelong pouch or opt for a total colectomy.

She chose the latter, leading to a major surgery that would change her life.
