Many would assume that restaurants are typically run at shop lots located at a bustling area, but there are some that choose a rather unconventional route.
Officers from the Penang City Council (MBPP) recently conducted a surprise raid on a house in the Barat Daya district, where they uncovered it was actually the premise of an illegal dim sum eatery.
Illegal dim sum eatery uncovered during raid
In an official statement by MBPP, it wrote that the raid was conducted at 9am on Saturday (Mar 8) by officers from the Licensing Department and Enforcement Department.
During the operation, they discovered a dim sum eatery that was operating straight from a house in the area, where it was found to not have a license to operate.
This was a violation of MPPP Food Establishment By-Laws 1991, where business owners are required to obtain a valid license from the council.
As a result, a number of items were confiscated by the authorities, such as business signboards, chairs, dining tables, gas cylinders, and food storage racks.
“All confiscated business equipment has been taken to the Enforcement Department’s storage facility at the Penang City Council for safekeeping, documentation, and further action.
“The Penang City Council will continue to enforce strict legal action against any operators conducting business activities without a valid license from the administration,” it wrote.
