Instafamous Malaysian chef Khairul Amin has been making headlines in recent weeks after the sale of his homemade sambal nyet reached the RM1mil mark in just three months.

Unfortunately, the sale of counterfeit sambal nyet products has also been flooding e-commerce sites as of late following his rise to fame.
Also known as @khairulaming on social media, the chef took to Instagram to share his disappointment in seeing his recipe being used to produce counterfeit products by unscrupulous parties.

In an IGTV video uploaded yesterday (April 28), Khairul said he had been receiving numerous complaints from customers regarding the quality and the taste of his sambal nyet.
Wanting to get to the bottom of the issue, he bought one bottle from an online seller to test its authenticity.
“This is not my sambal!” remarked Khairul when he opened the parcel and saw the product.
Khairul also pointed out a few dead giveaways that would show the differences between his and the reseller’s sambal. One example of this was the fire logo, where it was paler and blurry compared to the original.
He also explained to viewers how to detect fake sambal nyet products based on their texture and taste in the 7-minute video.
“In contrast to the original, the counterfeit sambal has a thick, black liquid layer on top and carries a strong fried anchovies smell.”
Khairul said that he was deeply disturbed by customers questioning him over the sambal they bought from resellers.
“They thought the fake products they had purchased were made by me and even demanded a refund.”
He also apologized for not meeting the growing demand for his sambal as it was always out of stock.

“I would never want to compromise on the quality of my product to keep up with the high demand.”
At the end of the video, Khairul said he would be lodging a police report and thanked his audiences for their support.
