In the latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Malaysia has secured the 9th position in the Southeast Asian region and is placed 57th worldwide.
The CPI evaluates 180 countries and territories globally, providing insights into the perceived level of corruption in the public sector, with scores ranging from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
How about our nearest neighbour, Singapore?
Notably, Malaysia’s neighbour, Singapore, follows closely at the 10th spot in the Southeast Asian region, highlighting the dynamic nature of corruption perceptions within the proximity.
The CPI rankings shed light on Malaysia’s standing in the fight against corruption, with a score that positions it in the middle ground globally.
As countries strive for transparency and accountability, the CPI serves as a crucial benchmark in assessing the efficacy of anti-corruption measures.
Southeast Asia’s most corrupt country: Myanmar
The title of the most corrupt country in the Southeast Asian region goes to Myanmar, with Cambodia, Laos, and the Philippines following suit.
Indonesia secures the 5th position, showcasing the varied landscape of corruption perceptions across the region.
Interestingly, Malaysia’s northern neighbour, Thailand, takes the 6th spot, emphasising the regional collaboration required to address corruption collectively.
