M’sian Woman Calls APM To Rescue Her iPhone After It Fell Down Steep Hill

Malaysians usually call the Civil Defence Force (APM) for floods, accidents, or animal rescues. But this time? It was to save something just as precious — an iPhone.

“Hello APM? My phone jatuh bukit.”

On July 12, a woman in her 20s made an unusual call to APM Jelebu around 11.45am, asking for help to retrieve her smartphone that had fallen into a steep hillside area at Bukit Batu Sawa.

Yes, the mission was for a phone. And not just any phone — it was an iPhone.

Full rescue op — for a gadget

According to Jelebu District Civil Defence Officer Lt (PA) Mohd. Najib Abdul Karim, the team arrived at the scene to find the woman and her friend already waiting.

Equipped with personal protective gear (PPE) and proper climbing tools, the APM officers got ready for the task ahead.

Reported by Kosmo!, the phone had landed about 10 metres down a rocky slope with a slippery surface.

Not the easiest mission, but the team pulled through — they retrieved the phone and handed it back to the owner, safe and sound.

The whole operation wrapped up at around 1.38pm.

First time ever

Lt Najib explained that this was the first time APM had received a request to retrieve a personal item like a phone.

He added that the team typically handles more serious emergencies such as road accidents, floods, and disaster response.

In an age where everything is on our phones, sometimes saving a device feels just as urgent.
