M’sian Woman Loses RM20k While Trying To Buy Labubu Dolls Online

Labubu dolls have become so popular that some even got stolen from bags while shopping.

This obsession recently took a darker turn when a Malaysian woman lost RM20,000 trying to buy a batch of these collectibles from an Instagram seller, reported by China Press.

It all started smoothly with a small test purchase of RM2,000, which convinced her that the seller was legitimate.

The seller had nearly 3,000 followers and several positive reviews, so she decided to proceed with a larger order in August.

Transferred money across 5 different bank accounts

Confident from the initial transaction, the woman followed the seller’s instructions and transferred money across five different bank accounts, trusting that everything was above board.

However, two days after making the final payments, the woman noticed something was off—there were no updates about her order’s shipping status.

She contacted the seller, only to discover she had been blocked.

This case serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of trusting online sellers, even those with seemingly positive reputations.

Collectible markets, like Labubu dolls, often attract both genuine enthusiasts and scammers looking to exploit the hype.
