Pearly-Thinaah Lose To World No. 1 Pair at Semi-Finals, Will Have To Fight For Bronze

Women’s doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah will have to battle for the bronze medal after they suffered a heartbreaking loss to world No. 1 Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan.

In the first set, they were slightly nervous and made a few errors, causing them to lose 12-21. However, it was an entirely different affair during the second set, with Pearly-Thinaah clawing their way to victory with a 21-18 score.

While they tried their best to replicate the same success in the third set, the Chinese pair proved to be too much for them and secured it with a 21-15 score.

This marks their second loss against the Chinese pair throughout the duration of the Olympics, with the first one taking place during the group stage with a 17-21, 20-22 score.

Despite their loss, this has been the duo’s best performance to date, where they were the first Malaysian women’s doubles to reach the semi-finals at the Olympics after trouncing bronze medallists Kim So-yeong-Kong Hee-yong 21-12, 21-13 in the quarter-finals.

They will be facing Japan’s Matsuyama Nami-Shida Chiraru in the bronze medal matchup.

Malaysia still has Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Lee Zii Jia competing in the men’s doubles and men’s singles event respectively, with the former facing world No. 1 pair Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang from China and the latter going up against Denmark’s Anders Antonsen.

A huge thank you to Pearly-Thinaah for your amazing accomplishment at the Olympics and we’re super proud of you both!
