In an Instagram post, Peng Soon said that the BWF World Tour Finals was the last match he would play with Liu Ying.

Seriously, it was not easy to make this decision. After all, we’ve been playing together for so many years. We failed together, achieved success together, grew together.

He also thanked fans who supported him and Liu Ying throughout their badminton journey.

Peng Soon also revealed that the breakup was bound to happen sooner or later as he had discussed with Liu Ying about splitting up after the Tokyo Olympics.

“We made this decision with a heavy heart, but we both have different goals to pursue.

“Well, in the end, it was still quite a sweet ending for us as we bade farewell with a semi-final outing at the World Tour Finals in Bali last week,” he told The Star, adding that he had no regrets over the decision.

This comes after Liu Ying announced that she and Peng Soon will not compete in the World Championships in Huelva, Spain, saying that they needed a break.

The duo started working together in 2009 and made it to their first finals at the Vietnam Open in the same year.

Their greatest achievement was at the 2016 Rio Olympics where they appeared at the finals but lost to Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir, clinching their first Olympic silver.
