Three Penang Eateries Shut Down Due To Rat Droppings & Poor Cleanliness

Recently (Sep 12), the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) conducted an inspection on three food premises around Tanjung Bungah.

The operation, which began at 5:00 PM and involved 10 officers from the Licensing Department, revealed that the cleanliness levels of all three food premises were unsatisfactory.

The discovery of rat droppings in all the premises led to an immediate closure order for 14 days, effective from 12 September 2024.

This was shared through the Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP) Facebook page. A thorough inspection was carried out in areas such as the kitchen, washing areas, food storage, drains, and ditches.

In addition to failing to implement scheduled pest control, the inspection also found that the operators had neglected to clean oil traps on a regular basis.

This led to drainage issues and contributed to public drain blockages.

The operators of these food premises may appeal for a re-inspection after complying with MBPP’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and meeting satisfactory cleanliness criteria before they are allowed to resume operations.
